FAQs
1. Why are rent rises affecting the price of fresh fruit and veg?
When rent increases are imposed on wholesalers, those costs are often passed across the supply chain, eventually leading to higher prices for consumers. This means families may end up paying more for the same fresh produce.
2. How will stopping the rent rises keep food prices down?
By stopping the Government’s proposed 100% rent hikes, we can help keep operational costs for wholesalers, retailers and growers stable, reducing the pressure to raise prices on fresh produce. This will ensure fruit and vegetables remain affordable (and accessible) for consumers, while supporting local businesses.
3. What is the goal of the Take the Pressure Off Campaign?
The goal is to urge the Allan Government to freeze rent increases at the Melbourne Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market in Epping. We want to ensure that rising costs don’t force families to pay more for essential fresh produce.
4. How can I help?
You can support the Campaign by emailing your local MP via this link, sharing our Campaign materials, displaying posters in your business, on your vehicles, and in your shops, and spreading the word on social media using the hashtag #TakeThePressureOff. Every action helps to put pressure on the Allan Government to act.
5. How will emailing my local MP make a difference?
When MPs hear from their constituents, it signals that there’s significant public concern over an issue. By emailing your local MP, you’re adding your voice to a larger movement, increasing the pressure on government officials to act.
6. Why do you need my name and email address?
We need your name and email address to generate the email template to your local Member. It won’t be used for any other purpose.
7. Why do you need my residential address and postcode?
We need your residential address postcode to ensure your email is sent directly to the correct local State Member of Parliament in the electorate where you live.
8. Will Fresh State contact me by email?
Fresh State may email you on the address provided. You can opt out or unsubscribe at any time.
